In Progress:
Revisiting the Perils of Presidentialism: I am working on a comprehensive cross-country study on government systems, with a focus on presidential behavior. Bridging qualitative insights from field studies of the post-Soviet world and Africa with the Western- and Latin American-oriented quantitative literature on government systems, I propose to shift attention away from law-making competencies and towards powers of appointment, resource allocation, security apparatus command. The goal is to explain why electoral regimes are more likely to result in incumbent autocratization or collapse under presidentialism.
